The Basics of Evo Journaling

Evo journaling is nature journaling with extra imagination. Combine nature journaling, speculative evolution, and creature design into one experience.

Nature Journaling

Observing the natural world while recording and asking questions in a journal has been around for centuries. It remains a great way to slow down, focus, and see the world more deeply.

Speculative Evolution

Combining biology, paleontology, geology, and artistic design to imagine what would happen if evolution went in a different direction. This could be based on earth or an alien planet. Flora, fauna, funga, and more could be reimagined!

Creature Design

Using our knowledge of biology and earthly creatures is the easiest way to make believable designs. Creature design usually starts with actual animal anatomy that is combined, modified, and reimagined to bring something new to the world.

Evo journaling has benefits beyond drawing skills

Quiet Your Mind

Nature journaling requires you to slow down, focus, and observe your immediate surroundings.

Boost Creativity

By adding creature design and speculative evolution into the mix we bring out the creative side of our brains and imagine “what if?”

Step Away from Consumerism

Evo journal pages can be created with nothing more than a pen/pencil and paper. It’s an excellent way to step back from consumer culture and save money.

My Mission

Evo journaling is more than design. I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say it enhances mindfulness, creativity, focus, attention span, and more. Will it fix all of the worlds problems? Nope. However, more people with hobbies that cultivate thought, creativity, and focus over mindless scrolling on electronics might just make us all a little bit better off. The mission is simple: sharing what I’ve discovered with others.

This Website

This goal of this website is to share a creative hobby with the world. It won’t be filled with ads and you won’t see posts from me on social media. (Feel free to share if you wish, but it’s not my cup of tea.) There is no surveillance capitalism at work. The only data collected will be for functionality and sharing our thoughts through blog comments.
